Scuttling spiders of the genus Cycloctenus are hunting spiders endemic to NZ. There are at least 10 described species with many more undescribed.  They are common in our forests but are rarely seen because of their speed when disturbed. They do not build snares but hunt using vision. They are hard to spot as they hide when they detect any movement and their mottled colouring makes them merge into the background.
