Colaranea melanoviridis is a small 8mm long spider that is easy to ID due to its green body and a black stripe down its abdomen.
It lives in New Zealand’s native forests and makes a chart type orb web to trap flying insects. Their eyesight is very poor and they use the extensions of their web as their sensors. They are hard to find during the day as they hide and only come out at night to repair of sit waiting in its web. Their webs are often spun in low vegetation.
