Most Lithobius species are typical representatives of the family Lithobiidae. Though they are usually brown occasionally one finds a beautiful violet individual.
They are about 2 to 5 cm long. The adult's body has 15 segments, and accordingly 15 pairs of legs. Like other centipedes, they are more active at night. They feed on insects and other small invertebrates. The eggs are deposited in the soil. Their life-span can be over 3 years.
