Celmisia discolor is a prostrate to sprawling, highly variable alpine subshrub which is widespread in the wetter sub-alpine to alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand.
The leaves vary in size and shape (1.5-4cm x 6-12mm). The leathery leaves surface are covered in small hairs while the underside is clad in a white tomentum. The leaves margins have a few fine teeth. In mid-summer, it produces a white daisy-like flower with a yellow centre on a 10-15cm long slender stalk.
