Megaleptoperla grandis is a stonefly from the family Gripopterygidae. The nymphs live among the boulders and stones of swift-flowing streams. Known predators of Megaleptoperla grandis are the Salmo trutta (Brown trout) and Stenoperla prasinia (nymph of the large green stonefly).
Stoneflies (Plecoptera) are one of the best indicators of a clean stream. The photo of the Megaleptoperla grandis collected from the Tauranga Water Supply stream which consistently gets some of the best water quality rating in New Zealand.
