Helophilus hochstetteri is a native, pollen feeding hoverfly of New Zealand.
Helophilus hochstetteri is often seen on flowers of many species ingesting anemophilous pollen. The pollen grains are essential to normal ovarian function (Schneider 1969) are digested in the gut.
