Austrocidaria gobiata is an uncommon large-sized native moth (> 4 cm wingspan) of New Zealand's montane to coastal areas. To date (2017)only a few have been reported from Taranaki, Raglan, Waikato, Northland, Gisborne, Coromandel, Reefton, Christchurch, Central Southland, Bluff.
The adult moths are on the wing from September to January.
Austrocidaria gobiata larvae feed on the leaves small leaved Coprosma.
