Genus: Panus
Species: Panus purpuratus
Scientific name: Panus purpuratus
Common name: None

Polypores have a complex macrostructure, their flesh being composed of several kinds of hyphae. The strengthening and binding hyphae account for the tough texture and long life of these fruit bodies. The family is one of convenience, members resembling one another only in their general appearance and growing on wood.

Oddly for polypores, Panus purpuratus has gills. It is found on wood: in Podocarp Forest. Spore is white. Height: 60 mm Width: 150 mm They tend to appear in the late spring-summer.
