Distichophyllum pulchellum var. pulchellum is a dense, flattened, light-green true moss found on leaf mould and old wood in shady damp conditions and may be found growing among liverworts.

This moss was photographed on Mt Taranaki/Mt Egmont at an elevation of 900 m.
