Amphipsalta strepitans is an endemic cicada recorded in New Plymouth (February) and along the south coast in Wellington. In the South Island, it is found in eastern areas from D'Urville Island south to Central Otago. It is common in N.E Marlborough and in parts of Motueka Valley.
