Hexathele kohua is a large New Zealand spider >25mm body length. It is in the Infraorder: Mygalomorphae which includes the tarantulas, trapdoor spiders, and funnel-web spiders. Mygalomorphs have several primitive features, including fangs that stab downwards rather than towards one another.
Hexathele kohua was first described by Forster 1968.
