Taxodium distichum ‘Cascade Falls’ is a form of weeping swamp cypress that can grow 6 m in height. Its parent Taxodium distichum, (Bald cypress), is a long-lived, pyramidal conifer which grows >21 m tall
This form was discovered growing on the bank of a lake in Albany, Auckland, New Zealand. This form’s branches hang outward and then hang vertically toward the ground. This cultivar does not produce viable seed. 'Cascade Falls' is typically grafted to Taxodium distichum understock at the desired height and the branches then weep downward from the point of the graft. If not grafted or otherwise supported, the foliage of this weeping cultivar would simply sprawl along the ground as a ground cover.
During early spring it develops soft green cascading foliage. Being deciduous the leaves develop Autumn colours before dropping off in winter.
