Strobilanthes anisophyllus is a hardy, evergreen small shrub growing to around 1.5m tall. It has dark green lance-shaped leaves of unequal size with slightly toothed margins. The leaves are stained with a blackish purple tint which is accentuated when growing in full sun. Cone shaped mauve flowers (25mm) appear in spring, and intermittently throughout the year.
