Escallonia rubra is an exotic, evergreen, densely branched shrub which grows to 4m in height. It has glossy dark green leaves with a serrated edges. It has dark pink to red flowers over summer.
It is a hardy shrub and is cultivars that are similar have been planted throughout New Zealand in exposed or coastal situations as hedges.
