Common name: False spleenworts
Deparia is a genus of ferns in the Athyriaceae family. They are terrestrial ferns with a long creeping stem (rhizome) and upright hairy and scaly yellow-green fronds. The fronds 2-3-pinnate, The sori are elongated along one side of a vein, sometimes paired on both sides. They are found in open, moist lowland forest and especially in disturbed places.
Some species in this genus can be invasive.

The small Deparia fern (22 cm) in the photos below was growing on a shaded bank path side in the Tupare Public Gardens, New Plymouth, Taranaki.
