Order: Lamiales
Family: Plantaginaceae
Genus: Hebe
Species name: H. Champagne
Common Name: Hebe 'Champagne'
Hebe 'Champagne' forms a compact evergreen bush, about 50 cm high and 90 cm across. The leaves are grey green, spear-shaped, about 15 mm or more long, and about 6 mm across. Masses of lavender tinted, white flower spikes appear from summer to autumn on slender purple stems. Will grows in the sun or shade. In autumn and winter the foliage colour intensifies, and hues of deep plum emerge.
It arose from a spontaneous seedling at a Naturally Native NZ Plants in Tauranga and is thought be a cross from Hebe bishopiana and a small leaved hebe growing nearby. It has been called Hebe bishopiana 'Champagne', but it does not resemble Hebe bishopiana.
