Pterostylis aff montana is a terrestrial tuberous herb. Plants grow up to 30cm high. It usually has 4 – 6 grass-like leaves, up to 15cm in length.
The flower is a single 2 - 3cm high and is green with translucent white stripes, sometimes with red in the dorsal and lateral sepals. Flower structures vary depending on the species. Labellum either twisted at the tip or straight. Dorsal & lateral sepals either short or long depending on the species. Ends of the lateral sepals are usually tubular.
