Orocrambus apicellus is a moth found only in New Zealand, where it has been recorded from the North and South Islands, as well as the Stewart Islands, Chatham Islands and the Auckland Islands. The habitat consists of swampy areas and wet pastures.
It is small-sized moth about 15mm body length. The forewings are brown with a thin white stripe. The wingspan is 22–26 mm. Adults have been recorded on the wing from October to April in two generations per year.
The larvae feed on Juncus polyanthemos (Manyflower rush), Juncus bufonius (Toad rush)and possibly Carex species (Sedges).
