Meterana alcyone is an endemic, medium sized moth (17 to 19mm fore wing length) and is a member of the Cutworms and Dart Moths The forewings are a dark brown with a lighter brown along the upper edge. It can be seen throughout the year.
Its habitat is native forests and coastal dunes. The larvae feed on Muehlenbeckia complexa (Pohuehue). They are nocturnal and hence are attracted to light.
