Leucogenes leontopodium is a perennial herb with a woody base, growing to 10–15 cm. The leaves are 1–2 cm long and are densely covered in silky hairs. Clusters of 8–15 flowers are surrounded woolly bracts, summer. It is found in rock outcrops and crevices in the mountains of the North Island and the Richmond Range of South Island, New Zealand.
