Hebe macrocarpa forms an erect growing evergreen shrub, reaching 2 m or more high. The spear-shaped, leathery leaves are a dark glossy green, up to 12 cm long and up to 2 cm wide. The white flowers appear in autumn/winter on 8–15 cm long spikes. This hebe is found naturally from Auckland southwards to Taranaki and Poverty Bay, North Island, New Zealand were it grows in sunny, windswept conditions on the coast or on bush ridges. It may be closely related to Hebe corriganii.
