Celmisia similis is endemic to the alpine and subalpine areas of North-West Nelson, north of the Buller Valley and west of the Motueka Valley and its tributaries.
It is a small slender cushion-forming subshrub with branchlets up to 60 mm long. It has a white petalled daisy-like flower with a yellow centre.
