Pseudocoremia rudisata is a large nocturnal moth found throughout New Zealand.
This species contains two allopatric (occurring in separate, non-overlapping geographic areas) subspecies (rudisata: ampia Hudson, 1923) that are both widespread and common. The larvae are oligophagous (eating only a few specific kinds of food) within Asteraceae on Olearia generally (5 species reported), Ozothamnus, Brachyglottis and Helichrysum lanceolatum.
