Acaena fissistipula is dull greyish creeping, evergreen, drought-tolerant herb that is widespread in montane to low alpine areas (300-1500m) in the South Island, New Zealand. 
The dull greyish, alternate leaves are pinnate with a single leaflet at the apex leaves are alternate. The leaflets are elliptic and have serrate margins. It can tolerate temperatures down to -23°C.
