Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Diptera
Suborder: Nematocera (Thread-horns)
Infraorder: Bibionomorpha
Superfamily: Sciaroidea
Family: Keroplatidae (same family as the glow worm).

Keroplatidae is a family of small flies, species known as fungus gnats. There are approximately 950 described species, but the true number of species is undoubtedly much higher. They are generally forest dwellers found in the damp habitats such as under wet forest logs favoured by their host fungi.
