Hylotelephium spectabile is a drought tolerant, herbaceous perennial with light green, simple, oval, alternate, toothed leaves, up to 8 cm long and up to 5 cm wide, on erect, unbranched succulent stems, up to 50 cm tall.
It produces large, greenish pink, broccoli-like buds in mid-summer, these gradually open into large terminal clusters of flowers in early autumn. The flowers are star-shaped, borne in flat cymes, 15 cm across. They change from a pale pink to a deep pink and the finally become a rusty red.
