The cultivar Hebe speciosa ‘Variegata’ forms a compact bushy, evergreen rounded shrub (50+cm high, width 50+cm) and it is exactly like the parent Hebe speciosa except for its variegated leaves. The broad spear-shaped leaves are glossy, grey-green 6–10 cm long, with irregular cream margins.
It has small 7 cm clusters of magenta flowers through out late spring and early summer.
Hebe speciosa ‘Variegata’ was first mention in 1854 by Joseph Harrison in ‘The Floricultural Cabinet, & Florists Magazine.’ In New Zealand it was listed in 1926 in Duncan and Davies catalogue.
